The University of Medicine in Vienna is a medical university in Vienna, Austria. Formerly the faculty of medicine became an independent university on January 1, 2004.


The independence of medical schools from the structure of “general” universities was part of a larger reform of the Austrian university system enacted in 2003.


The University of Medicine in Vienna is the largest medical research institution in Austria and the biggest medical university in all the German speaking countries.


The University of Medicine in Vienna offers degree programes in Human Medicine and in Dentistry.


As in the past four years, the Austrian federal capital has been rated the most liveable city worldwide in this year’s Quality of Living ranking.

The duration of study for medicine at the University of Medicine in Vienna, Austria is 6 years and the studies are free.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS for the University of Medicine in Vienna

In order to study Medicine or Dentistry in Austria, you need to have:

1) C1 level of German 

2) pass the entrance exam which consists of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Passages in the German language and an IQ test and 

3) it is a prerequisite to have an acceptance letter from a university of medicine in your own country if you are NOT a European Union Citizen.

If you do not have a C1 level of German, we can provide you with a place at the University of Vienna to study the language there first.

It is a two-year program and the total cost for the language program is 7,700 euro paid in 4 installments in the period of the 2-year studies.

In the first year, you will be enrolled in the University of Vienna for the language to reach a B2 level. The lessons are 3 hours every day Monday through Friday and the duration of studies is 9 months.

In the second year, you will continue the 9-month language course to reach the C1 level and we will also provide you with daily lessons of entrance exam preparation.

The preparation subjects are in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Passages in the German language and an IQ test.

The entrance examination date for the faculty of Medicine and Dentistry is at the beginning of July every year.

Once you pass the exam and are accepted in the medical university, the fees are 800 euro for Non-EU citizens per year for the University and free for EU citizens.
For accommodation and food, you will need between 600 and 800 euro per month.
